Privacy & cookie policy

Information you provide

Reading public research does not require an account. Registration is required only to use site search, submit comments or report comments, and collects only an email address, display name and password. Passwords are converted into salted, repeated cryptographic hashes; the original password is not stored. Comments, reports, moderation status and necessary account timestamps are stored when those features are used.

Information collected automatically

Hosting, security, analytics and advertising providers may receive technical data such as IP address, browser and device type, approximate location, referring page, pages viewed and interaction data.

Cookies, analytics and advertising

An essential, HTTP-only session cookie keeps verified members signed in. Analytics and advertising services may use separate cookies or similar technologies. Where required, visitors may be shown consent choices before non-essential or personalised advertising cookies are used.

Comments and moderation

Normal comments from verified members are published immediately. Comments may be screened for spam, abuse, manipulation, solicitation and personal data. A member-reported comment is hidden while it is reviewed and may then be restored or removed. Rejected comments, reports and moderation records may be retained for abuse prevention and audit purposes.

Third parties, retention and security

Third-party links and services operate under their own privacy policies. MII retains information only as reasonably needed for site operation, legal obligations, security and moderation. No internet service can guarantee absolute security.

Your choices

You may refrain from registering and still browse sectors, companies and all public reports. An account is needed only for search, comment submission and comment reporting. Privacy, correction or deletion requests should identify the account or content concerned so the request can be assessed.
